Laundry Day guide
How to play Laundry Day
Laundry Day is a sorting puzzle with socks. Hang three matching socks on one line and Gnatz grabs them, then the next basket of laundry goes up. Clear every line and every basket, in as few moves as you can.
Laundry Day rules
The rules in one minute
Every line has three pegs. Socks hang on them, more wait in baskets below. Each family has its own colour and its own pattern, and every family comes in sets of three:
- Tap a sock. It jumps off its peg. Tap it again and it goes back.
- Tap another line. The sock hangs on the first free peg there. That is one move.
- Three of a kind: Gnatz grabs them. Same colour, same pattern, all three on one line. Gnatz slides over and takes them.
- Then the basket goes up. Only now is the top basket under that line hung up. Empty every line and every basket to finish.
You can never get stuck: there is always a free peg somewhere, so there is always a move. The challenge is doing it in few moves, because the stars depend on it, and there is no undo: look before you tap.
Baskets
What waits below the lines
From Normal on, lines have more than one basket. The badge counts them. You only see into the top one: what waits further down stays a surprise until it comes up.
- Every line has its own baskets. The badge says how many wait below it. You can already see the socks in the top one.
- A trio unpacks the next one. Baskets only come up when Gnatz grabs a trio from that very line. Nothing else opens them.
- No basket left: free room. A trio on a line without baskets leaves three free pegs to work with.
From Normal on
Tangled socks stay put
From Normal on, a sock or two got tangled in the line itself. There is no peg, just a loop of rope around a twisted bundle. You can’t move it, so its line can only ever hold its own trio.
- This sock is tangled in the line. No peg, just a twist of rope around it. Tap it and it only wriggles: it can't leave its line.
- So bring two of its kind. This line can only ever become a trio of that family. Strangers have to leave, two matching socks come in.
- Trio: the knot goes too. Gnatz takes all three, tangled one included, and the basket under the line comes up as usual.
Treat a tangled sock as a fixed address: that line belongs to its family. Park strangers somewhere else, and when you build that family, build it there. In the app this twist is called knotted socks.
From Tricky on
Twin-clip pairs move together
From Tricky on, some socks come in pairs on a twin clip: two plastic clips in the family colour, joined by a bar behind them. They replace the wooden pegs and never come apart.
- Two socks, one twin clip. Two clips in the family colour, joined by a bar. These two always move together.
- One move, but two free pegs. A line with a single free peg can't take them and shakes. A line with two can.
- One more makes a trio. Bring the third sock of the family, and Gnatz takes all three. Two socks for the price of one move.
A pair is two thirds of a trio for a single move. The catch is room: it needs two free pegs on the same line. Keep a line with two free pegs, or bring the pair straight to the line where the third sock already hangs.
From Devilish on
Locked baskets
On Devilish, some basket stacks have a woven lid with a lock. You can’t see inside, and the stack shows no count. The sock lying on the lid tells you how to open it.
- A lid on the baskets. You can't see inside and there is no count, only a lock. The sock lying on the lid is the key.
- Clear a trio of that sock, anywhere. It doesn't have to be on the locked line. As soon as Gnatz takes a trio of that family, the lid opens.
- Then its own line brings the basket. Now the top basket shows its socks, and a trio on that line hangs it up like any other.
A trio of the sock on the lid opens it, on any line. Until then, a trio on the locked line just leaves it empty. Check the lids at the start and clear those families early, before you need the baskets underneath.
How to play
Laundry Day in Beasties, step by step
The lines in the middle, Restart and Extra line below them, the move counter on top. Gnatz peeks over the board and holds up every trio like a trophy.
- Tap, then tap. First the sock, then the line it should go to. A full line shakes and nothing happens.
- Every move counts. There is no undo. Under the stars: your moves so far, and how many are left before the next star falls.
- Out of room? Extra line. For 10 stars you get a small line with one peg and no basket to park a sock. Each further peg costs double: 20, then 40. With it the level gives two stars at most.
- Restart: a clean slate. The same level from the start, with zero moves and the stars back. A bought extra line stays, and so does its cap of two stars.
Stars
Fewer moves, more stars
Three stars are at stake in every level. In Laundry Day they do not depend on mistakes, only on how many moves you need.
- Every level has a move target. It comes from a solution that only uses what you can see, plus a little room. Stay inside it and all three stars are yours.
- Too many moves cost stars. Past the limit one star falls, and another one every few moves after that. The counter turns red shortly before.
- All three gone: try again. Lose the last star and the level is lost. Restart it and look for a shorter way.
- Finish it, keep them. The stars you still have fly into your counter when the last basket is empty.
The target comes from a solution that only uses what you can see in the app: the lines, the lids and the top basket of each line that isn’t locked. So three stars never depend on luck. How much room you get on top depends on the difficulty: about a third of the target on Chill, a quarter on Normal, 15 percent on Tricky and a tenth on Devilish, always at least two moves.
Difficulty levels
Four difficulties, fixed levels
The boards below are level 1 of each difficulty. Each step up adds a twist: tangled socks on Normal, twin-clip pairs on Tricky, locked baskets on Devilish. On top of that come more lines and families, more baskets and less room above the move target.
Chill
6 lines · target 6–20
Six lines, three free pegs and at most one basket per line. Plenty of room to warm up.
Normal
9 lines · target 15–42
Nine lines, up to two baskets each, and one or two socks tangled in the line that won't move. Plan around them.
Tricky
9 lines · target 29–61
Every line has baskets, up to three. Tangled socks plus twin-clip pairs that move together. Every move counts.
Devilish
12 lines · target 42–82
Twelve lines, two free pegs, knots and pairs, and locked baskets that only open after a trio of the sock on the lid.
Within one difficulty, level 1 and level 999 ask for the same. Chill, Normal and Tricky have 150 free levels each. You unlock the rest for free with the stars you win, or all at once with Pro. All of them are the same for every player in the same order, so the solutions on this site match your app, from level 1 to 999 on every difficulty.
Laundry Day strategy
Four habits for fewer moves
Any order of moves gets the laundry done in the end. These four habits get it done fast enough for three stars.
Tip 1
Keep a free peg
A pair with a free peg next to it is a trio waiting to happen. Fill that peg with a stranger and the trio costs you extra moves.
- A pair and a free peg. This line is one sock away from a trio.
- Do not park a stranger there. The line would be full, and the stranger would have to leave again before the trio can happen. With no undo, that is one wasted move, maybe two.
- Bring the third one. One move and Gnatz grabs the trio. Keep free pegs next to your pairs.
Tip 2
Build where a basket waits
A basket only comes up through a trio on its own line. When a family could go either way, build it on the line with the basket.
- Two places to build. This family could get its trio on either line. One of them has a basket waiting.
- Pick the one with the basket. Every basket can only come up through a trio on its own line, so that trio has to happen there sooner or later.
- Two jobs in one. The trio is gone and the next basket is unpacked, with no extra move.
Tip 3
Plan with the top baskets
You only see the top basket of each line, so plan with those. Missing the third sock? If it waits in a top basket, clear the line above it first and the sock comes up.
- Look into the top baskets. You only see the top basket of each line. The third sock of this family waits in one of them.
- Clear that line first. A trio on the basket's line brings the basket up, and the sock you need with it.
- Now finish the family. The sock is on a peg now, one move completes the trio.
Tip 4
Don’t waste moves
When a sock has to make room, send it to its own family. One move clears the way and builds a pair.
- A stranger is in the way. This line needs room for its trio, so one sock has to go.
- Send it to its family. Not to any free peg, but next to a sock of its own kind. The same move now builds a pair.
- Every move does two jobs. Room here, a pair there. Play like that and you finish well under the target.
Went too far? There is no undo, but Restart gives you a fresh counter and all three stars. Short of room? For 10 stars you can put up an extra line with one peg to park a sock, and make it longer for 20 and 40. Like every helper in Beasties, it caps the level at two stars.
Solutions
Stuck on a level?
Every level has its own solution page, free and Pro. You see the start of the level and a solution one move at a time, in exactly the target number of moves.

FAQ
Laundry Day questions, short answers
What is the goal in Laundry Day?
Empty every line and every basket. Three matching socks on one line are taken by Gnatz, and then the top basket under that line is hung up. When nothing is left, the level is done.
Which socks match?
Socks of one family share their colour and their pattern. There are ten families: teal with rings, pink with dots, yellow with zigzags, purple with stars, red with hearts, orange checks, white with diagonal stripes, green pinstripes, plain brown and blue diamonds. Every family has its own pattern, so you can tell them apart even without the colours.
Can I move a sock to any line?
To any other line with a free peg. The sock always hangs on the first free peg from the left. A full line shakes and nothing happens. Two exceptions: a tangled sock can’t move at all, and a twin-clip pair needs two free pegs.
What are the knotted socks?
Socks that got tangled in the line, from Normal on. They sit on the rope with no peg and can’t be moved. Bring two socks of the same family to their line and Gnatz takes all three, the tangled one included.
How do twin-clip pairs work?
Two socks of one family share a twin clip, from Tricky on. Tap either one and both lift. They move together, which counts as one move, and they need two free pegs on the target line. One more sock of their family makes the trio.
How do I open a locked basket?
On Devilish, a lid with a lock covers some basket stacks. Clear a trio of the sock lying on the lid, on any line, and the lid opens. After that, a trio on that line brings the top basket down as usual. While the lid is shut you can’t see inside, and a trio on that line leaves it empty.
When does a basket come up?
Only right after Gnatz grabs a trio from its own line. Socks from a basket are hung on the pegs of that line, and the next basket moves up with its socks on show.
Can I get stuck?
No. There is always a free peg somewhere, so there is always a move. Laundry Day is about doing it in few moves.
How do I keep all three stars?
Stay under the move limit. Every level has a target, worked out with only what you can see in the app, plus some room on top: more on Chill, less on Tricky and Devilish. The number next to the star under the counter shows how many moves you have left before a star falls.
Is there an undo?
No. Once Gnatz has a trio it is gone, and you have already seen the basket that came up. If a level goes wrong, Restart sets the counter to zero and gives you all three stars again.
What is the extra line?
A help you buy with stars: a small line with one peg and no basket, for 10 stars, where you can park a sock. Each further peg costs double, 20 and then 40 stars, up to three pegs. A trio on it is cleared like on any other line. It stays for the level, also after a restart, and the level then gives two stars at most.
Can I see what is in the lower baskets?
No, only the top basket of each line shows its socks, and not even that while a lid is shut. The ones below stay hidden until they come up. The move target is planned with exactly what you can see, so you never need to guess.
What happens when all stars are gone?
The level is lost and you start it again from the beginning. Stars from earlier levels stay yours.
Is level 37 the same for everyone?
Yes. The levels are fixed and come with the app: the same puzzles in the same order for every player. New levels are only added at the end.
