Monster workshop

Build your own monster

In Beasties your monster comes along to every puzzle and peeks over the board while you play. In the workshop you dress it up: colour, body, eyes, ears and horns, hats, patterns, extras, an effect around it and a victory effect for every win. Parts hatch from eggs you buy with the stars you win, the free season pass adds more every quarter, and Pro comes with an outfit of its own.

Stars, eggs, parts

How to get new monster parts

Stars are the only currency in Beasties. You win them in the games and spend them in the shop, where the eggs sit under Monster parts. Every egg holds a part you don’t have yet.

  1. Win stars. Every level you solve in any of the games pays out the stars you kept, up to three. Daily challenges add bonus stars on top.
  2. Pick an egg in the shop. Green costs 20 stars, blue 50, golden 120. The colour tells you how special the part inside is.
  3. Watch it hatch. The egg wobbles three times and cracks, then it pops open.
  4. Put it on. Your monster shows up wearing the new part straight away. A victory effect plays right behind it. Keep it on, or save it for later.

Stars can’t be bought on their own. The daily challenges add bonus stars on top of each round, and the only stars that come with a purchase are the 500 bonus stars in Pro.

Egg rarities

Green, blue and golden eggs

The colour of an egg tells you how special the part inside is: common, rare or legendary. Take the monster colours: green eggs hold plain ones, blue eggs gradients and neon, golden eggs metal, holo and gems.

  • The Green egg in the Beasties shopCommon

    Green egg

    2069 parts inside

For example Puppy ears, Sand, Chef hat. Your first one: a 1 in 69 chance for each.

  • The Blue egg in the Beasties shopRare

    Blue egg

    5075 parts inside

For example Flame, Dragon horns, Owl eyes. Your first one: a 1 in 75 chance for each.

  • The Golden egg in the Beasties shopLegendary

    Golden egg

    12028 parts inside

For example Holographic, Wizard hat, Flame horns. Your first one: a 1 in 28 chance for each.

Each missing part of an egg’s colour is equally likely, and you never hatch a part twice. Tap the ⓘ next to Monster parts in the shop to see your own odds. An egg only ever hatches parts of its own colour: once you have them all, the shop shows All found and you can’t buy it any more, so you never spend stars for nothing.

Collection

Collect them all

The workshop shows every part, including the ones you don’t have yet. Locked parts are dimmed and carry a small badge that says where they come from. Tap one and the workshop tells you how to get it.

  1. The counter. Under the title the workshop counts your parts: owned out of all 243. The active tab shows the count for its slot.
  2. Eggs. A small egg on the badge: the part hatches from that egg. The card has a button straight to the shop.
  3. Pro. A crown: the part belongs to the Star King outfit that comes with Pro.
  4. Seasons. A season emoji: the part is in a season pass. In the running season the card shows the stamps you need, otherwise the month the season comes back.

Every part

All monster parts in the workshop

Ten slots, each with its own tab in the workshop. Tap a part to see it bigger and where it comes from. The counts match what the workshop shows right now: season parts are included, and from the New Year glasses only the pair in this year’s pass.

243 parts: 69 from green eggs, 75 from blue, 28 from golden ones, 12 you start with, 7 in the Pro outfit and 52 from the season pass.

Victory effects

A victory effect for every win

The tenth slot isn’t worn by your monster. A victory effect plays each time you solve a level, in every game, on top of the game’s own celebration. Tap one in the workshop and it plays over your monster.

With Energy on Low the effects are shorter and lighter. With Reduce Motion turned on in iOS, a still picture of the effect fades in and out instead.

Animated parts

Parts that move, and the Energy setting

Some parts have a life of their own: fireflies drift around your monster, a propeller spins, the holo colour shimmers, the New Year glasses twinkle. How often they move is up to you, in Settings under Energy.

  1. Normal: animated parts move in short bursts now and then. This is where every iPhone starts.
  2. High: they move all the time.
  3. Low: nothing moves and the effects get lighter, which saves battery. With Low Power Mode on, Beasties switches to Low by itself.

Season parts

Season parts from the free season pass

Every quarter has its own season with twelve parts and a victory effect that you can only get there, never from eggs and never for stars. Stamps from the daily challenges move you along the pass. How the season pass works

Missed a season? It comes back next year with the same parts. The New Year glasses at the end of the autumn season are the one exception: every year has its own pair.

FAQ

Monster workshop questions

Do I have to pay for monster parts?

No. Almost every part comes from an egg or from the free season pass. Eggs cost stars, which you win by playing. The only parts tied to a purchase are the seven pieces of the Star King outfit, which come with Pro.

How many monster parts are there?

The workshop counts all of them at the top, in the form owned / total, and each tab shows the count for its slot. This page shows the same numbers: parts from eggs, the ones you start with, the Pro outfit and the season parts.

Can I choose which part hatches from an egg?

You choose the egg, and the egg sets the rarity: green for common parts, blue for rare ones, golden for legendary ones. Which part of that colour you get is a surprise, but it is always one you don’t have yet.

Can I get the same part twice?

Not from an egg, because eggs only hold parts you are missing. In the season pass a part you already own turns into 60 stars instead.

What happens when I have every part of a colour?

That egg is sold out: the shop shows All found instead of its price, and you can’t buy it any more. The other eggs stay on sale until their colours are complete too. An egg of a finished colour from the season pass pays its price in stars instead.

What does the lock on a part mean?

You don’t have that part yet. The badge next to the lock shows where it comes from: an egg, a season (its emoji) or Pro (a crown). Tap the part and the workshop tells you more, with a button to the shop, the season pass or Pro.

What is a victory effect?

A celebration that plays whenever you solve a level, in every game, on top of the game’s own one. Classic is the one you start with. Five more hatch from blue and golden eggs, and each season pass has one of its own.

Can I change my monster’s look later?

Any time. Open the workshop, pick a tab and tap a part you own. Changing costs nothing, and every part stays yours.

Do animated parts drain the battery?

On the Normal setting they only move in short bursts now and then. Set Energy to Low and nothing moves at all. With Low Power Mode on, Beasties switches to Low by itself.

Is my monster saved online?

No. Your monster, its parts and your stars live on your iPhone only. Beasties has no account, and without your consent it sends nothing; if you agree, only anonymous level statistics.
