Ice Slide guide

How to play Ice Slide

Ice Slide is a sliding puzzle on a frozen pond. Each swipe tilts the whole pond, and every monster slides at once until something stops it. Get each one into its nest in as few moves as you can.

Ice Slide rules

The rules in one minute

The pond is a grid of ice with a few rocks. Every monster has a nest in its own colour. You never move one monster alone: you tilt the pond, and they all go.

  1. Swipe to tilt the pond. Every monster slides that way at once, as far as it can. A short swipe anywhere on the board is enough.
  2. A nest catches its monster. Each monster has a nest in its colour. The blue monster slides over the pink nest without stopping and plops into its own.
  3. Edges and rocks stop the rest. A monster only stops at the edge of the pond, at a rock or at another monster. It never stops halfway on its own.
  4. Everyone home: solved. The pink monster is in line with its nest now. One more tilt and the pond is cleared.

A monster in its nest stays there for good and blocks the way like a rock. Another monster’s nest is just ice: you slide right over it. Every level in Beasties can be solved, and the app knows its shortest way.

How to play

Ice Slide in Beasties, step by step

The pond in the middle, Undo and Restart below it, and your monster peeking over the top edge, watching every slide.

  1. Swipe anywhere on the board. Up, down, left or right. The pond leans that way and every monster slides.
  2. Moves and stars. Under the stars the round counts your moves. The little star tells you how many moves are left before the next star falls.
  3. Undo is free. It takes back your last tilt, but the move still counts. Here the counter stays at 2.
  4. Restart, same level. Restart puts every monster back and the counter to zero. Also free. Now the shortest way: three tilts, three stars.

The first time you open Ice Slide, a short tutorial explains the swipe and the nests on Chill level 1. You can replay it any time from the game’s start screen.

Stars and moves

Three stars at stake in every level

Every level has a target: the fewest moves it can be solved in. Hit it and you keep all three stars. There is no timer, only your moves count.

  1. Three stars for the shortest way. This Tricky level can be solved in 6 moves, and that is what three stars ask for. No timer, only moves count.
  2. Then a star falls every 2 moves. Past the target, the line under the stars counts down to the next one. Undo does not bring it back.
  3. The third star falls: level lost. On move 11 the last star is gone. Two monsters are home, but too many moves are too many.
  4. Try again. The same level starts over with all three stars. Stars you won in other levels stay yours.

A tilt that moves nothing does not count. Undo and Restart are free, but an undone move still counts. Each level page in the solutions shows its target and how many moves still give two stars or one.

Ice Slide tips

Four tricks for the shortest way

Every example is a real level from the app, played move by move with the game’s own rules.

Trick 1 · Chill

Look for the straight line

A monster only gets home along a row or a column. It does not have to stop on its nest: sliding over it is enough.

  1. Look for a straight line. A monster gets home when it sits in the same row or column as its nest, with nothing in between. Here both are lined up from the start.
  2. One tilt, one monster home. Tilting up sends the blue monster into its nest. The pink monster slides up too, until the rock stops it, still in its column.
  3. The nest catches it mid-slide. Nothing has to stop it on the nest: sliding over it is enough. It plops in, though the ice goes on below.

Trick 2 · Chill

Home monsters are stoppers

Once a monster is in its nest it never moves again. Use it as a wall to stop the next one exactly where you need it.

  1. Bring one home first. The pink monster needs a single tilt to the right. The blue monster stays put: it already sits at the edge.
  2. Now it is a stopper. A monster in its nest never moves again. The blue monster slides down and stops right on it, in the row of its own nest.
  3. Then home. One tilt to the left and it plops in too. Three moves, three stars.

Trick 3 · Chill

The one in front slides first

In every tilt the monster nearest the far edge moves first. The ones behind stop on it, so who stands in front decides where everyone ends up.

  1. The one in front goes first. A tilt moves the monster nearest the far edge first. Tilting down, that is the blue monster, and it slides into its nest.
  2. The others follow. Then the pink monster slides down behind it and stops on the full nest, right next to its own.
  3. Two tilts, solved. One tilt to the left and it plops in. Who moves first decides where everyone stops.

Trick 4 · Normal

Two homes with one tilt

Park monsters in the rows or columns of their nests, then bring them in together. Tricky and Devilish targets are tight, and that is where the moves are saved.

  1. Play for the line-up. This Normal level takes four tilts. The first three bring the pink monster home and park the other two.
  2. Two in line at once. The blue monster and the yellow monster now each sit in the row of their nest, with free ice in between.
  3. One tilt, two homes. A single tilt to the right sends both in. Thinking one tilt ahead like this is how you find the shortest way.

Tip: before each swipe, follow every monster with your eyes, not just the one you want to move. Like planning moves ahead? Then try Stacks next.

Difficulty levels

Four difficulties to choose from

The ponds below are level 1 of each difficulty. Each step brings a bigger pond, more monsters and a longer shortest way, and fewer spare moves before a star falls.

Chill

5×6 · 2 monsters · 2–4 moves

Two monsters, few stones. Perfect to warm up.

Normal

6×6 · 3 monsters · 4–6 moves

Three monsters. The ones at home become stoppers.

Tricky

6×7 · 3 monsters · 6–9 moves

Three monsters, long ways round.

Devilish

7×7 · 4 monsters · 10–14 moves

Four monsters on slippery ice. Think many tilts ahead.

Chill, Normal and Tricky have 150 free levels each. You unlock the rest for free with the stars you win, or all at once with Pro. Every player gets the same ponds in the same order, so the solutions on this site match your app.

Solutions

Stuck on a level?

Every level has its own page, free and Pro. Try the pond yourself right on the page, then open the shortest way and follow it one tilt at a time.

FAQ

Ice Slide questions, short answers

What are the rules of Ice Slide?

Swipe to tilt the pond. Every monster slides that way until a rock, the edge or another monster stops it. A monster that slides over its own nest plops in and stays. When all monsters are home, the level is solved.

Can I move just one monster?

No. Every tilt moves all monsters that are not home yet. That is the whole puzzle: find tilts that help one monster without sending another the wrong way.

Does a monster have to stop on its nest?

No. Sliding over its own nest is enough, it plops in mid-slide. Nests of other monsters are plain ice for it.

How many moves do I have?

Three stars up to the target, the shortest way. After that a star falls every few moves: every four in Chill, three in Normal, two in Tricky and every move in Devilish. When the third one falls, the level is lost and you try again.

Does Undo cost anything?

No, Undo and Restart are free. But an undone move still counts for the stars. Restart puts the counter back to zero.

Can I look up the rules during a round?

Yes. Tap the gear at the top left of the round: Settings open, and their Game guide row takes you straight to the rules of this game and how the stars work.

Is there a timer?

No. Ice Slide has no clock. Take as long as you like, offline and without ads.
